Welcome to
The Mustard Seed has been planted to support Christian organizations that assist with healing and/or prevention of childhood sexual abuse, and to be a gateway for survivors to access resources and to facilitate healing.
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

The First Seed
Our Humble Story
In March 2016, the Mustard Seed Thrift Store opened its doors in Floyds Knobs, not just as a thrift store but as a haven for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to connect to healing resources. The story unfolds with Ginny Weigleb, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, stepping into the role of founder with a vision inspired by her own journey.

Hope & Healing for Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
- Prevention Through Education: 1 out of 10 children experience sexual abuse, according to recent studies. In more than 90% of childhood sexual abuse cases, the victim knows the offender.
- Resilience and Growth: Only 26% of children disclose their abuse to an adult, and only 12% report it to authorities. Childhood sexual abuse survivors are at a higher risk for PTSD, depression, anxiety, physical health issues, & economic challenges.
Survivor Testimonials
Each of these women are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The Mustard Seed has helped them and many others find the healing they needed! They are reminders for us all that hearts can be restored through faith and the gift of giving!
Prevention: How Do We Protect Children?
At The Mustard Seed Thrift on Mission, we believe every child deserves to grow up safe, seen, and protected. Their worth is not defined by the world. It is God given and sacred. Preventing childhood sexual abuse is not just part of our mission. It is part of our calling.
Abuse often happens in places that should be safe: homes, churches, schools, and communities. That is why prevention begins with awareness, education, and the courage to speak up. We believe in creating environments where children are protected, adults are equipped, and silence no longer has the final word.
Because this kind of abuse often leaves no bruises, and many survivors lack physical proof, it can be difficult for others to understand or believe what has happened. This makes it all the more important that caregivers and communities respond with deep compassion and clarity when a child reaches out for help.
Defining Sexual Abuse
We use the following definition from Shelter from the Storm: Hope for Survivors of Sexual Abuse:
“Sexual abuse is any sexual activity, verbal, visual, or physical engaged in without the consent, which may be emotionally or physically harmful and which exploits a person in order to meet another person’s sexual or emotional needs. The person does not consent if he or she cannot reasonably choose to consent or refuse because of age, circumstance, level of understanding, and dependency or relationship to the offender.”
(Kubetin and Mallory)
Abuse is not always obvious. It can be hidden in secrecy, grooming, or emotional manipulation. It is not just about physical acts. It is about harm, betrayal of trust, and the misuse of power.
What Prevention Looks Like
At The Mustard Seed, we believe prevention is not a one-time conversation. It is an ongoing commitment to creating a culture of safety, awareness, and protection. Here is what that commitment looks like in practical terms:
Equipping parents and caregivers to talk openly with children and teens
Many survivors say they did not speak up because they were never told they could. Prevention begins with open, age-appropriate conversations about body safety, boundaries, and consent. Children need to know that they can ask questions, say no, and come to a trusted adult when something feels wrong. Parents and caregivers must be given tools and confidence to lead these conversations in ways that are clear, calm, and free of shame
(“Child Sexual Abuse Prevention”).
Recognizing the signs of grooming or inappropriate behavior
Abuse rarely begins with physical contact. It often starts with grooming, which involves subtle behaviors intended to gain a child’s trust and gradually break down their boundaries. Adults must be trained to notice warning signs such as secrecy, favoritism, isolation, or a child’s sudden discomfort around a specific person. Recognizing these red flags early allows adults to step in before harm occurs.
Responding with compassion and clarity when someone discloses abuse
When a child or adult shares that something has happened to them, how we respond can either open the door to healing or reinforce fear and silence. It is critical to respond calmly, believe them without question, and take appropriate steps to ensure their safety.
This is especially important when the child’s abuser appears to be trustworthy or respected. Many survivors speak up with no visible evidence, and often the person causing harm has built trust within the family or community. That is why our first response matters so deeply. Even if it is difficult to believe, the child needs to be heard and affirmed.
Responses such as “I’m so sorry this happened to you” and “You did the right thing by telling me” are powerful starting points. From there, reporting to the appropriate authorities and connecting survivors to support must follow.
Creating environments at home, at school, and in churches that prioritize safety and accountability
Prevention is not only about individuals. It is about systems. Schools, churches, and community spaces must have clear safety policies, background checks, accountability structures, and ongoing training. Children and adults alike should know how to report concerns without fear of retaliation. Safe environments are not accidental. They are built with intention, vigilance, and compassion.

What is your ‘Why’? Learn what our team is serving for.

What’s the Why?
The Mustard Seed was born from both my personal story and a deep calling from the Lord. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I know the weight of carrying silent pain and the courage it takes to step into healing. But the mission is far bigger than my story. It is about offering hope and opportunity for the countless others who have not yet found their voice. Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” That verse anchors everything we do. At the Mustard Seed, we are creating space for survivors to be seen, to speak, and to begin healing in an environment that honors their story and their worth. I believe God is using every part of this mission to redeem what was once broken and to remind survivors that they are not alone. My why is to be part of that redemptive work, to help bring light, truth, and healing into places long hidden in silence.

What’s the Why?
I learned about the Mustard Seed through a ServeDay Project with Northside Christian Church. I was voluntold by Jill Warner and Ginny Wiegleb that I should be on their Board of Directors. It has been my pleasure to serve as a Board Member, Board Treasurer & as CEO over the last 8 ½ years. In this time, I have shared our mission countless times with hundreds of people so as to grow our mission and help spread the news that we are here to help survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

What’s the Why?
My ‘Why’ is to serve God and to– in my small way, help survivors get the healing they deserve, and to feel the love of Christ in the process.

What’s the Why?
My ‘Why’ is to serve God and this is where He needs me. Sexual abuse is one of the most traumatic experiences anyone can go through, it affects people every day, resulting in anxiety, depression, and it damages the heart, mind, and body. I am blessed to be chosen to serve at the Mustard Seed.

What’s the Why?
I desired a career full of purpose and that pleased the Lord. The Mustard Seed allows me to utilize my creative skills to strengthen the mission. I feel fulfilled knowing that what I do for The Seed helps to provide healing for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I feel like I am truly making a difference in my community by the grace of God.

What’s the Why?
I serve at The Mustard Seed to see Jesus in action. We are blessed with many donations, volunteers, and customers who are faithful to our mission. The hands, feet and hearts of these people help me see Jesus in motion, as we endeavor to assist with the healing and prevention of childhood sexual abuse.

What’s the Why?
God’s plans are bigger than mine! I was led to the Mustard Seed through a friend. Serving at the Mustard Seed is more than a paycheck, it’s being able to help the mission and serve God.

What’s the Why?
I started as a customer at The Mustard Seed after family and friends introduced me to it. I made a decision to seek employment here due to the wonderful atmosphere and friendly people. The mission here is very important and makes the job extremely rewarding. I can honestly say I love my job and everything it stands for.

What’s the Why?
What my ‘Why?’ God, my future, and these two girls.

What’s the Why?
I was a longtime Mustard Seed thrifter and when I saw they had job openings, I had to apply. I wanted to work for a faith-based company that had potential for growth, but also had a vision for the bigger picture. I have witnessed so many blessings at The Seed. People who have had nothing, are restored in the eyes of the Lord here at The Mustard Seed

What’s the Why?
I believe I was called to serve at The Mustard Seed. The organizations we support are all important to me. By serving as a team member at The Seed I can help those organizations in a small way. I could never donate to all of them, but by my work here, I can give to each one. I get to indirectly reach each one in a small way.

What’s the Why?
My husband, David, and I have been married for 56 years. We have two children (one of which is Jennifer, the other manager) and five grandkids. We used to go to yard sales and flea markets, but not so much anymore (LOL)…
David and I were customers of the Mustard Seed. I came in to shop and asked if they were hiring, and they were. So I applied and joined the team. At first it was just a job and a paycheck, but then it quickly became a calling. After my first few days of work, a woman chose to share about her past abuse with me. She helped me realize that this is more than a job. I hope that my time with her helped and encouraged her– and I hope to help more people through my work at The Seed.

What’s the Why?
A few years ago a friend introduced me to this lovely store, it quickly became one of my favorite shopping places.
A while later the Lord opened the door for me to work there. Since working with them I have come to love not only the store but also the mission and the precious people running it.
Every day I strive, alongside the rest of them, to be a light for Jesus to those I come in contact with.

What’s the Why?
I have been shopping here for years. I was looking for an opportunity to serve in a mission, when I saw a position open here, I knew this is where I needed to be. I’ve seen our mission in action by showing up every single day ready to work hard, have fun, encourage others and love like Jesus.

What’s the Why?
I serve at the Mustard Seed because I believe in their mission. I am amazed everyday by the work they do to help so many women and children.
